Ames High School Class of 1981 40th Reunion: Reunite, Reconnect
Friday June 25, 2021 and Saturday June 26, 2021
Please register for all events you plan to attend--even the free ones so we can get an accurate count of classmates who will be there.
Registration DEADLINE is Saturday, May 15, 2021. After this date, prices will increase.

Note: Your class reunion planning committee has partnered with the Class of 1980 for many of the weekend's reunion activities (golf, AHS tour, walking tour).

Celebrate with your classmates Saturday evening at Gateway Hotel & Conference Center
A special evening to Reunite and Reconnect begins with a cash bar with your 1981 high school classmates, their guests and some of our teachers who we've invited. It will be held in the beautiful setting of the Gateway Hotel. Closer to the event, you'll get to choose your dinner entree for the evening.

There will be no loud entertainment, but plenty of time to talk and catch up with your classmates.

As an added bonus, we’ve invited Ames High teachers and staff from our school years to join us for dinner that evening if they wish. We are comping their meal as small token of our appreciation for all they did for us in high school. Please consider a donation.

Please note - meal choices will be available closer to the event - April 2021 timeframe. We will send you a link by email. Also, the Gateway can accomodate a range of special dietary needs -- please add in the comment box on the registration page.

Here's what else is happening during our 40th Reunion weekend:

Music and Gathering Friday Night

Bandshell Park (Durham Bandshell), 6th and Duff, Downtown Ames starting at 5 p.m.
Torrent Brewery,  7 p.m. Free, buy your own drinks/food

Enjoy some music at Ames on the Half Shell then join your classmates at Torrent Microbrewery for an informal gathering on Friday, June 25. Ames on the Half Shell is a concert series hosted by the Ames Jaycees featuring local bands at Durham Bandshell Park located at Duff Avenue and 6th Street on Fridays in June from 5 p.m.-8 PM. There is a nominal admission fee ($5 in 2019) to enter the Beer Garden. It is a family friendly event with food trucks, beverages and live music. For more information go to www.amesonthehalfshell.com.

After the music, join your classmates at Torrent Brewery for an informal gathering beginning at 7 p.m.

Tables and seating may be limited as we have not reserved the brewery and it will be open to the public that night. We’ve invited the Class of 1980 to join us; however, they also have an event Friday night.

We committed to provide Torrent an estimate of attendance so they can properly staff for the night. Please register at the top of the page to help us estimate counts. Again, we are not charging for this event as it’s buy-your-own, but we want to know who’s coming. Order you 40th Class Reunion T-Shirt below and we'll be handing them out at Torrent and again during our Saturday dinner at Gateway.

Golf, Saturday, 8:30 a.m. Shotgun start, Veenker Memorial Golf Course
The Class of 1980 is coordinating this 9-hole Golf Tournament with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Guests & spouses are welcome. Space is limited, so register early. The cost of $35 includes a cart and some fun prizes. Club rentals are available - select your option in the registration box.

Nature Hike/Walk, Saturday, 10 a.m., Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor
Join us to explort Story County's newest county park in the ISU Research Park in south Ames on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor is a unique community-space showcasing conservation techniques, sustainable technologies, environmental education, water quality awareness, and trail connectivity. This 37-acre park brings county, city, university, and state partners together to illustrate synergies between commercial development, quality of life improvements, and natural resource conservation. The main entrance is located off South University Boulevard, just one mile south of the Gateway Hotel and next to the Economic Development Core Facility. Ample partking is available or you can walk from the hotel if you desire. Read more.

Lunch, Saturday, approx. 12 noon, Veenker Memorial Golf Course

After the golf tournament, a picnic lunch will be served at the Clubhouse at Veenker. This is open to all classmates and not just the golfers.  Cost $8.

Ames Senior High School farewell tour, 2:30 p.m
Say goodbye to our old high school as a new one is being built. This start time gives golfers and lunch participants at Veenker enough time to join in the tour and everyone enough time to get ready before our dinner celebration that begins with a cash bar at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m.

In 2018, the Ames community voted to approve a bond referendum for the construction of a new high school. Construction began in June 2019 on the new building on the same site as the current high school. Updates on construction can be found on the Ames Community School District website.

The Ames High School, as we know it, will be demolished in the summer of 2022, with the opening of the new building in fall 2022. A tour led by a member of the Alumni Association for classmates of 1980 and 1981 will be on Saturday June 26th at 2:30 PM. Please meet at the main entrance of the old high school, you remember that one!  We hope to have the AHS gift shop open. Just in case, the Athletic department has an Online Apparel Store - (ames.k12.ia.us) .
